Bingo fundraising events have been around for decades. That’s because people love to play bingo and charities can earn several thousand dollars in just one evening of bingo. Many nonprofit organizations, clubs and schools have annual basket bingo events. There are some organizations whose basket bingo fundraisers have become so popular and lucrative that they hold basket bingos two and three times a year.

While your organization can earn as much as $5,000 for an evening of basket bingo, it does take quite a lot work and preparation behind the scenes to put on one of these fundraisers.

So what is a basket bingo fundraiser?

Basket Bingo is like regular bingo except that the prizes are all baskets. Most often the baskets are Longaberger baskets. The baskets are filled with products such as Longaberger accessories, gift certificates, candles, scrapbooking supplies, beauty products, gourmet foods, etc. Each filled basket can be worth several hundred dollars. This is a big draw for your fundraiser.

The typical basket bingo fundraiser lasts from three to four hours. Holding them on a Saturday afternoon or evening are good times.

The elements of a typical Basket Bingo Fundraiser are:

Admission Tickets

Admission tickets are usually sold for $20.00 at the door or $18.00 in advance. For this price each participant receives a book of Bingo sheets good for 20 games of Bingo. You an sell extra game books for $5.00 each. Some people will buy extra sheets to increase the odds of winning in each bingo game. You can also have a couple of special bingo games that people pay extra for. You should aim to sell between 100 and 200 admission tickets. If you sell 125 tickets for $20.00 a piece that will bring in $2,500. By holding raffles and selling food during the event you can bring in more money for your organization.

Raffle Prizes

In addition to prizes for each bingo game, you can also hold a raffle of a special prize. You can presell the raffle tickets and sell more during the event for an amount such as $1.00 or $5.00 per ticket. To maximize your earnings you should advertise the prize and presell tickets. Do not require that the winner be present during the drawing. The raffle prize doesn’t have to be a basket but should be a nice prize with a high dollar value. Longaberger wrought iron tables and accessories are good for raffle prizes.

Raffles for monetary prizes. 50/50 raffles are also a good way to raise more money during a basket bingo fundraiser. With a 50/50 raffle, tickets are usually sold for $1.00. At the end of the raffle one ticket is drawn and the winner receives fifty percent of the total amount raised by the sale of the tickets. The other fifty percent of the pot is kept by your organization.

Door Prizes

You can also have door prizes that you hold drawings for during the event. Give everyone who purchases a ticket to the event one raffle ticket for each prize. The door prizes are usually small items.

Food and Refreshments

Snack Bars and Concessions. Since the event will last for three to four hours you should have refreshments available for purchase. At some basket bingo events a buffet luncheon is served that attendees pay extra for. You can raise more money by having food donated. You may want to provide one free drink to everyone who purchased a ticket. Bake sales are also good earners during bingo fundraisers.

Professional Bingo Caller and Bingo supplies

A professional bingo caller is recommended because it takes a person with experience and bingo equipment to run a night of bingo. You will also need a master of ceremonies to be in charge of making announcements and keeping the activities moving.

The Prize Baskets

You will need to have a unique gift basket as a prize for each game of bingo. Longaberger baskets are good to use because they are collectible. There are a lot Longaberger basket collectors who might not otherwise be bingo players but will come to your event for a chance at winning a basket. Many Longaberger baskets are also created with a purpose so filling them with items based on a theme is easy. In order to make money on your fundraiser the baskets and prizes should be donated. YOu can contact a local Longaberger sales representative who can sell you the baskets and give you advice on how to fill them. Raising the money to buy the baskets, or getting them donated, and filling them will take time and money. If your organization is a school you can assign each class a basket theme and ask the families of the students to send in items to fill the baskets.

Realistically it will take a couple of months of work in order to hold a basket bingo fundraiser. You first need to decide if you will be able to assemble of team of volunteers willing and able to do it. After you have assembled your team then you have to get the word out that you need donations of baskets, money, and prizes. You also need to select the venue and date for the fundraiser. Then you will be well on your way to a successful basket bingo fundraiser.By: Amy Passmore

A lot has been written in the press recently about the bingo industry struggling because of the smoking ban in the UK. Things have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for massive tax breaks to help keep the industry afloat. But does the online version of this classic game offer a lifeline, or will it never compare to its bricks and mortar equivalent?

Bingo is an age old game historically enjoyed by the “blue rinse” generation. However the game of late had witnessed a recent resurgence in popularity with younger members of society opting to hit the bingo halls instead of the clubs on a Friday night. All this is about to change with the introduction of the smoking ban across England and Wales.

No longer will player be able to smoke their superking cigarettes whilst marking off their numbers and calling house. From the summer of 2007 all public places will no longer be allowed to permit smoking in their venues and this includes Bingo halls, one of the most popular places where people like to smoke.

The effects of the smoking ban can already be seen in Scotland where smoking is already not permitted in the bingo halls. Numbers have plummeted and the industry is literally fighting for its life. But where have all the players gone? Surely they haven’t given up on this age old game?

The answer is online. People are now realising that they can play bingo in front of their computer whilst enjoying a drink and fag and still enjoy massive jackpots. This is a recent phenomenon and has timed itself almost perfectly with the ban on smoking.

Of course playing online can never replace the social aspect of going down to the bingo hall, but for a demographic of people where the majority of smokers the law has left many bingo players with little option. If the industry is to survive then, tax breaks are the only way forward to support this ailing industryBy: Mark Hirst

Bingo is a fun, family-oriented game which continues to grow in popularity throughout the world. It is a game of chance, and randomly-drawn numbers are matched to the same numbers appearing on a bingo card. The winner is the first player to have the drawn numbers form a specified pattern on their card (lines can be made horizontally, vertically, or diagonally). When this happens, the player yells out, “Bingo!” to inform others of their win.

In many countries, Bingo is used as a form of legalized gambling. In the United States, numerous bingo halls are available to play at, and states like Oklahoma often locate these facilities next to more traditional casinos.

If you happen to find yourself in Oklahoma, you should certainly visit one of their many bingo halls and play a few games. The action is fast-paced, and all sorts of great prizes are up for grabs (including money and cars at some of the larger facilities). In fact, I’ve complied a short list of some of the better places to play in the state.

Okemah, Oklahoma – Located in Central Oklahoma, Okemah is the county seat of Okfuskee County. It is the birthplace of folk music legend Woody Guthrie (if you visit in July, be sure to check out the festival dedicated to his memory). In the Indian language, the word Okemah means “things up high.” And if you’re not in a hurry, you might also want to check out Lake Okemah, which is one of the most well-managed lakes in the state (and since Oklahoma is “America’s Frontier Lake State,” that’s really saying something).

There are three major centers for bingo in the city. The first is Okemah Bingo and Casino, located at 1100 South Woody Guthrie Street. Second, there’s The Okemah Gaming Center, which offers a variety of slot machines as well as bingo. It can be found just off of Interstate 40. Speaking of Interstate 40, that’s where the third facility can also be found. It’s called the Thlopthlocco Tribal Town Casino, and it’s just off of Exit 227.

Concho, Oklahoma – A rural unincorporated community, Concho is in Canadian County and can be found just north of the Concho Indian School. While there’s not much to see in the small community of Concho, there’s some excellent bingo and gambling to be found at the Lucky Star Casino, located on 7777 North Highway 81.

Turpin, Oklahoma – Another small community which offers excellent bingo opportunities, Turpin is located in Beaver County. While there’s not much in the way of shopping or dining, fans of history may be interested in the Turpin Grain Elevator which is included in the National Register of Historic Places.

Bingo is available at State Line Bingo, which is located on Highway 83 South. Games are available every Tuesday through Saturday starting at 5:30 pm.

Haileyville, Oklahoma – Located in Pittsburg County, Haileyville has a population of around 900. Be careful when traveling to the bingo hall, however, as the town’s main source of income comes from speeding fines.

In actuality, this community doesn’t have an actual bingo hall. Instead, games are held at the Haileyville Fire Department, which is located at 110 Main Street. This may sound a bit odd, but it’s perfect for those who want to make new friends and sample of slice of small-town life.

While the places I’ve listed here may sound small and unimportant, that shouldn’t stop you from giving them a try. The people of Oklahoma are warm and generous, and the residents of these smaller communities are especially hospitable. Besides, there’s often less competition, so that could possibly add up to more wins (and more prizes) for you.By: Shane Rivers

Can you just imagine it? Sailing through the blue warm Caribbean sea on a luxury cruise liner from one exotic island to the other while taking part in some of the biggest bingo tournaments in the world. If you are not the adventurous type, then there are several tournaments online both free tournaments and real money tournaments that you can take part in with a simple click of the mouse.

When you think of online gambling and tournaments, the first thought to most people is poker. The fact is poker tournaments are big online and even on television. If you compare poker tournaments to bingo tournaments then the later is dwarf significantly. But that is not to say that bingo tournaments are not on the raise with more and more people taking part in a chance to cash in on a jackpot or just play in free tournaments.

Bingo Free Tournaments

There are several free bingo tournaments online. These games are 100% free. All you have to do is sign up and great an account to play. There are no special requirements to play. Some bingo tournaments do require that all players are of age and adhere to juridical gambling laws.

These games are played on a daily basis at a specific time of the day. The bingo games are played based on credits. Think of your credit like your money. The objective is to win as many games as possible to build up your credits. The size of the pot depends on how many players participate in each game. Just as in traditional games when you have a bingo the pot will go to you increasing your credits. If there are other players who have bingo also then the pot is shared. The person with the most credit wins when all credits are tallied at the end of the day.

The prizes are normally very modest in free bingo tournaments. Some free bingo tournaments will give winners cash prizes and non cash prizes. Just as prize is given to the highest daily winners, monthly winners are also rewarded.

The credits you gain in a single day is normally only for that particular day. Depending on where you play credits are not usually carried over to other days. This is to allow a clean slate for all players in games for the next day.

Real money bingo games are growing everyday online. As mention earlier a most world cruise tournaments does require that you play with real money to have a chance to win the trip. Looking at all the odds coupled with all the fun you will have playing, it is certainly worth it.By: Rory Brown

Most people are familiar with the game of bingo, it’s one of those games that pretty much everybody knows how to play. Of course, most of us think of bingo as leisure activity, but modified versions of the game are increasingly popular with teachers as an educational activity.

There are many reasons why teachers are adapting bingo to classroom use. Apart from being very easy to learn, some of the reasons why bingo is so popular in education is that game play can easily be modified to match a variety of educational situations, and, given the financial limitations which most teachers work under, the fact that no specialist or expensive materials are required to play bingo.

Bingo is an especially popular activity with teachers of foreign languages, including, of course, Spanish. There are many different ways in which the game can be utilized in Spanish class.

Here are some ideas for how Spanish teachers could use the game in their classes (in each case the teacher should act as the bingo caller):

1. Use bingo cards with numbers (as digits) printed in each square (e.g. “4″, “23″ and “57″), but the teacher calls out the numbers in the Spanish (e.g. “cuatro”, “veinte tres”, or “cincuenta siete”). This style of playing is a wonderful way for students to practise their Spanish numbers.

2. You could play use bingo cards printed with letters of the alphabets, times or dates. As with the previous variant, all game play should be conducted in Spanish.

3. You could practice Spanish vocabulary – use bingo cards containing English words, but all bingo cards are made in Spanish.

4. You could also practice English to Spanish translation – for this variant of the game, you should use cards printed with Spanish words, and the teacher makes the calls in English.

As you can see, for most variants of the game, you will need special bingo cards containing things other than the usual numbers. You’re probably wondering how to obtain such cards – but the good thing is that you don’t need to buy them – you can simply print your own bingo cards from your computer. This is easier than you might think – you can download ready-to-use free bingo printables from the Internet, or simply buy some affordable software for printing bingo cards. If you decide to get bingo card printing software, this has the advantage that you will be able to print bingo cards whenever you want, containing whatever customized items you want, in effectively unlimited quantities.By: Sunil Tanna
